This Module/Chapter was pretty much split into two sections: Email communication and Social Media. I really did not learn anything new from reading the part of the chapter on email. The biggest thing I learned was how popular social networking has become. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace are a few sites where millions of people connect on a business, entertainment, and even research level. Being a user of facebook myself, it has been pretty seamless the way my 10 year high school reunion was able to be planned. I could only imagine the difficulty of planning one without social networking. The one negative side I feel about a site such as facebook is that it makes a reunion seem like more of a social gathering due to the fact you can see how former classmates are doing if they are in your network. I also became more aware that you should be careful what you put on sites such as facebook because employers can use that as ammunition to not hire you or even fire you. It seems I hear a lot about "tweeting" lately on Twitter. Athletes and stars keeping fans updated on their thoughts and actions. Quotes from twitter often seem to appear on sportscenter and other news casts. I was searching about facebook and found this site( http://www.cmswire.com/news/topic/facebook )with a couple news headlines on the first page, such as that 80 percent of children access the net weekly and that most Americans get their news online as opposed to paper. Here is a video i found on facebook that is pretty cool, a guy did a project on the use of facebook around the world at a action per second graphic. (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=37403547074 ) Other than missing out on the one web lab, I feel my participation in this module was enough to learn the things I did. This class is one of the only ones I'm taking that doesn't bore me honestly.
New Terms I learned:
Bcc( blind courtesy copy) : a copy of a message that is sent by a recipient without that recipient's name or e-mail address appearing in the heading
flaming : Responding with strong language or insults by email and other online communication tools.
individual messages format: sends each message to members of a mailing list as a single email message.
